recruitment

UK/rɪˈkruːt.mənt /US/rɪˈkruːt.mənt /
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,026 of 15,258leans written

Recruitment is the process of finding and choosing new people for jobs. Advertising, sifting, interviewing, offering.

It is the formal word, and human resources departments use it constantly: a recruitment drive, a recruitment agency, recruitment costs. The military and political senses are older, since armies and movements recruit as well. American English says hiring for the commercial version. The verb is recruit, which is also a noun meaning the new person, especially a new soldier.
