reminder

UK/ɹɪˈmaɪndə(ɹ)/US/ɹɪˈmaɪndəɹ/
nounC1Common in everyday speech and writing · #4,278 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: reminders

A reminder is something that makes you remember. A gentle reminder, set a reminder, a reminder of home.

It covers the practical — a calendar alert, a letter about an unpaid bill — and the emotional: a reminder of what was lost. A gentle reminder is the standard polite formula for chasing somebody, and is rarely as gentle as it says. A final reminder is not a reminder at all but a threat. Note remind, which always takes an object: remind me, remind him.
