roasted

US/ˈɹoʊstɪd/
adjectiveB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #6,475 of 15,258neutral

Roasted means cooked by dry heat until browned through. Roasted potatoes, roasted coffee, freshly roasted.

The browning is the point: dry heat drives off water and starts the reaction that makes hundreds of new flavour compounds, which is why roasted vegetables taste nothing like boiled ones. In slang, being roasted means being mocked to your face.
