roundup

nounC1Common in everyday speech and writing · #7,861 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: roundups

A roundup is a summary of the main news, or the gathering of cattle. A news roundup, the weekly roundup, a cattle roundup.

The cattle sense is the original and is a real seasonal job on a ranch, driving scattered animals to one place. The news sense borrows the image exactly: a roundup gathers what is scattered into one place.
