To run away is to escape from a place or a person by running. Feet first, and questions later.
Children run away from home, prisoners run away from custody, and everybody has wanted to run away from a situation at some point. The noun runaway covers a person who has done it and also an out-of-control vehicle, and as an adjective it means uncontrolled, so runaway inflation and a runaway success are both standard. Running away with an idea means being carried off by it.
