satanic

UK/seɪˈtænɪk/US/seɪˈtænɪk/
adjectiveB2Common in everyday speech and writing · #7,267 of 15,258neutral

Satanic means belonging to the Devil himself. Satanic rites, a satanic cult, satanic imagery.

It is used far more of what people fear than of what exists: the satanic panic of the 1980s was a wave of accusations across Britain and America that investigations found no evidence for. In loose speech it just means monstrously cruel.
