schoolteacher

nounB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #4,492 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: schoolteachers

A schoolteacher is somebody whose job is teaching in a school. A primary schoolteacher, a retired schoolteacher, work as a schoolteacher.

The compound distinguishes them from a teacher of anything else, which is why it appears in biographies and obituaries more than in schools. Inside a school everybody is simply a teacher.
