secluded

UK/sɪˈkluːdɪd/US/sɪˈkludɪd/
adjectiveB2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #8,267 of 15,258neutral

Secluded means hidden away and far from other people. A secluded garden, a secluded beach, secluded from the road.

It is nearly always positive, which separates it from isolated: a secluded cottage is desirable and an isolated one is a worry. Estate agents rely on the word heavily for that reason. The verb is seclude, which is rare, and the noun is seclusion — in seclusion, meaning deliberately apart from people. Note that secluded describes a place, while reclusive describes a person who chooses to live in one.
