A security guard is a person employed to protect a place or the people in it. High-visibility jacket, radio, and a great many hours of nothing happening.
The job covers shops, building sites, hospitals and events, and in Britain it requires a licence. The powers are the same as any citizen's, which surprises people, since a guard may detain somebody only in the same circumstances anybody could. Most of the work is presence and observation rather than confrontation, and the training emphasises exactly that.
