Other forms: shareholders
A shareholder is somebody who owns shares in a company and so owns part of it. Major shareholders, a shareholder meeting, shareholders voted against it.
Owning shares brings a vote at the annual general meeting and a claim on dividends when profits are shared out. Shareholder is the British term and stockholder the American, for the same thing. Shareholder value is the phrase used to describe running a company primarily in the owners' financial interest — a contested idea, often set against stakeholder, which means everybody affected: staff, customers, neighbours.
shareholder is a part owner of a company.
Also accepted in games: stockholder
From share + holder.
