shedding

nounB2Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,680 of 15,258neutral

Shedding is the seasonal loss of an animal's coat. Heavy shedding, shedding season, reduce shedding.

It is driven by day length rather than temperature, which is why house pets on artificial light shed all year. Brushing removes the loose undercoat and is the only thing that reliably helps. No breed sheds nothing, whatever is claimed. Note shed, the verb, which is unrelated to the building.
