showcase

UK/ˈʃəʊˌkeɪs/US/ˈʃoʊˌkeɪs/
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,002 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: showcases

A showcase is a glass case for display, or an event that shows off talent. In the showcase, a showcase event, showcase the work.

The literal case is a shop fitting. The figurative sense is now much the commoner and works as a verb: to showcase something is to put it where it will be seen to advantage, and a showcase match exists to display the sport rather than to decide anything.
