Sick leave is the paid time off you take when you are too ill to work. Days that do not come out of your holiday.
It is a legal entitlement in most countries, though the amount varies enormously, and in Britain statutory sick pay is the minimum an employer must provide. A sick note from a doctor is required after a week. The phrase takes on: being on sick leave. Long-term sick leave is a formal category. The related terms are sick pay, which is the money, and a sick day, which is one of them.
