snowblower

US/ˈsnoʊˌbloʊɚ/
nounC2Very rare — outside the 30,000 commonest English words, so you will meet it in writing rather than in speechleans spoken

Other forms: snowblowers

A snowblower is the machine that hurls drifts off a driveway. An auger draws the snow in and a chute throws it clear.

It is essential equipment across Canada, the northern United States and Scandinavia, and almost unknown in Britain, where a shovel and three days of grumbling do the job. The largest ones clear railway lines and airport runways. The word is one word. Throwing the snow onto the neighbour's side of the drive is a recognised source of dispute wherever they are used.
