snowboarding

UK/ˈsnəʊbɔːdɪŋ/US/ˈsnoʊbɔɹdɪŋ/
nounB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #5,836 of 15,258leans written

Snowboarding is riding down snowy slopes standing sideways on a single wide board. Go snowboarding, learn snowboarding, snowboarding boots.

It became an Olympic sport in 1998, and halfpipe, slopestyle and big air are the main competitive forms. Learning is famously harder than skiing for about three days and easier afterwards, because both feet are fixed to one board. Note snowboarder; and that many resorts banned snowboarding entirely into the 1990s, and a small number still do.
