soldering

UK/ˈsəʊld(ə)ɹɪŋ/US/ˈsɑdəɹɪŋ/
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #11,373 of 15,258neutral

Soldering is joining metal with a lower-melting alloy. Soldering iron, soldering the joint, a dry soldering joint.

The parts themselves never melt, which is what separates soldering from welding, and the alloy flows into the joint by capillary action. Most electronics is held together this way, and it is now done by machine at scale.
