splodge

UK/ˈsplɒd͡ʒ/US/ˈsplɑd͡ʒ/
nounC2Very rare — outside the 30,000 commonest English words, so you will meet it in writing rather than in speechleans spoken

A splodge is an irregular blot of colour. A splodge of paint, splodges of ink, a great splodge.

It is British and informal, and splotch is the American form of the same word. The sound does the work, as it does in splash and splat, which is why nobody needs it explained.
