Other forms: stampings
Stamping is the process of pressing shapes out of sheet metal. A die comes down, and the part is made in one blow.
It is how car body panels, tin lids and coins are produced, and it is extraordinarily fast once the tooling exists, which is why the tooling costs so much. The machine is a press and the shaped tool is a die. There is a quite separate everyday sense of bringing your foot down hard, and stamping out a fire or a practice means eliminating it entirely.
