stand out

phraseB2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To stand out is to be easily noticed among all the rest. Something about it will not blend in.

It can be praise or a problem, since standing out in a good field is an achievement and standing out in a crowd may be exactly what you were hoping to avoid. It takes from. The adjective outstanding comes from the same idea and means excellent, though in accounting it means still unpaid, which is a strange pair of meanings for one word. A standout is the best of a group.
