Other forms: stingrays
A stingray is a flat sea fish with a whip tail that carries a barb. A stingray in the shallows, the stingray's barb, shuffle for stingrays.
The barb is a defence used when the fish is trodden on, so the advice on a sandy shore is to shuffle rather than step, which gives it time to move. Attacks are rare and almost never fatal. It is a relative of the shark and has no bones, only cartilage.
