swimsuit

UK/ˈswɪm.s(j)ut/US/ˈswɪm.s(j)ut/
nounA2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #5,984 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: swimsuits

A swimsuit is what you wear in a pool or the sea. Pack a swimsuit, a one-piece swimsuit, a swimsuit and a towel.

British English also says swimming costume, or cossie informally, and American English says bathing suit. Swimming trunks is the usual word for the men's version in Britain. Competitive swimsuits are a technology in themselves, and some were banned from Olympic competition in 2010 for giving too much advantage. Note swimwear, the shop category, and that a wetsuit is a different garment for a different purpose.
