take down

phraseB12 meaningsNot compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To take down is to write what is said — or to dismantle something. Two senses that both involve bringing something down.

The writing sense is formal and belongs to police and to meetings, and anything you say may be taken down is the most famous sentence in British policing. The dismantling sense covers scaffolding, tents and decorations. It splits round an object. There is a third sense meaning to defeat, so taking down an opponent is a wrestling term that has spread widely.
