take responsibility

phraseB2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To take responsibility is to accept that a matter is yours to answer for. Not blame exactly — ownership.

It takes for. The phrase does two jobs. It can be an admission after something has gone wrong, which is what people demand of institutions and rarely get. And it can be prospective, since taking responsibility for a project means agreeing to own it going forward. Accepting responsibility carries slightly more of the first sense, and being held responsible removes the choice entirely.
