Other forms: teenagers
A teenager is a person aged from thirteen to nineteen — the years whose English names end in -teen. The one hunched over a phone at the kitchen table, awake at two in the morning, asleep at noon.
The short form teen is used everywhere in headlines and marketing: teen fashion, a teen drama, teens and screens. Watch which word goes where — teenager is the noun and teenage is the adjective, so a teenage boy becomes a teenager, never a teenage. The plural teens also names the years themselves: she learned to sail in her teens. The edges are firm because they come from the numbers: a twelve-year-old is not a teenager, and neither is a twenty-year-old, however much they act like one.
