teething

UK/ˈtiːðɪŋ/US/ˈtiðɪŋ/
nounB2Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,964 of 15,258neutral

Teething is the painful weeks when a baby's teeth push through. Teething trouble, a teething ring, she is teething.

It causes dribbling, chewing and broken nights, and it does not cause fever, whatever is said — a baby with a temperature is ill rather than teething. Teething troubles is the standard phrase for the early faults in anything new.
