throughput

UK/ˈθɹuː.pʊt/US/ˈθɹu.pʊt/
nounC1Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #14,049 of 15,258mostly written

Throughput is how much passes through a process in a given time. Increase throughput, low throughput, throughput per hour.

It is not the same as speed: a system can be slow for each item and still have high throughput if it handles many at once, which is exactly how factories and networks are designed. The word was built on the model of input and output.
