toddle

UK/ˈtɒdəl/US/ˈtɑdəl/
verbB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #11,771 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: toddling

To toddle is to walk unsteadily, as a small child does. Toddle across the room, toddling about, toddle off.

The unsteadiness comes from a high centre of gravity and short steps, which is why toddlers walk with their arms up and their feet wide. Toddle off is a light British way of saying leave. Note toddler, the child at that stage, which is the word's chief descendant.
