tofu

UK/ˈtəʊfuː/US/ˈtoʊfu/
nounB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #5,122 of 15,258leans spoken

Tofu is a pale soft block pressed from soy milk. Fried tofu, silken tofu, a block of tofu.

It is made like cheese — soy milk is curdled and the curds are pressed — and how hard you press decides everything from silken to extra firm. It has almost no flavour of its own, which is the point. The name is Japanese, from a Chinese phrase meaning curdled bean.
