Other forms: toolboxes
A toolbox is the sturdy case that holds hammers, screwdrivers and nails. A handle on top and a tray that lifts out.
The metal ones with cantilever trays are the classic design, and the plastic ones are lighter and never last as long. The word has a strong figurative use, since a toolbox of skills or techniques means the set of things you can call on, and a toolkit does the same job. Software borrowed it too. The essential fact about a real toolbox is that the thing you need is always at the bottom.
