topaz

UK/ˈtəʊˌpæz/US/ˈtoʊˌpæz/
nounB2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #8,342 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: topazes

Topaz is a hard clear stone, often golden. A topaz ring, blue topaz, a cut topaz.

Most blue topaz on sale was colourless and has been irradiated and heated to change it, which is standard and disclosed. It is hard but splits cleanly along one plane, so a knock in the wrong direction ruins a stone that scratches almost nothing.
