touchdown

UK/ˈtʌt͡ʃ.daʊn/US/ˈtʌt͡ʃ.daʊn/

Other forms: touchdowns

Touchdown is the moment wheels meet the runway again. A smooth touchdown, the time of touchdown, after touchdown.

Pilots aim for a firm one in rain, because a gentle landing on a wet runway risks aquaplaning — the tyres must cut through the water to grip. In American football a touchdown is six points, and nothing needs to touch the ground for it.
