triplets

nounB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #7,705 of 15,258neutral

Triplets are three children born to the same mother at the same time. Give birth to triplets, identical triplets, a set of triplets.

They occur naturally in perhaps one birth in eight thousand, and far more often where fertility treatment is involved. They almost always arrive early and small, and identical triplets, from one egg splitting twice, are rarer still.
