uganda

UK/juːˈɡændə/US/(j)uˈɡɑndə/
nounB1+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #14,302 of 15,258mostly written

Uganda is the green East African country at the source of the Nile. Travel to Uganda, born in Uganda, the hills of Uganda.

The Nile leaves Lake Victoria there, which is why the country is called the source, though the argument about where a river truly begins never ends. Churchill called it the pearl of Africa, and the phrase is on every tourism poster.
