underprivileged

adjectiveB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,485 of 15,258leans written

Underprivileged means having fewer advantages than most people. Underprivileged children, an underprivileged background, help the underprivileged.

The word has fallen out of favour because it compares people to a norm and describes them by what they lack. Disadvantaged is the current term, though it does much the same thing.
