unhurried

adjectiveB2Very rare — outside the 30,000 commonest English words, so you will meet it in writing rather than in speechleans written

Unhurried means taking a calm and easy pace. Not slow because something is wrong — slow because there is no reason to rush.

The word is nearly always approving, which is what separates it from slow. An unhurried breakfast is a pleasure; a slow breakfast might just be cold. It suits manner as much as speed: an unhurried voice, an unhurried examination, walking at an unhurried pace. Writers reach for it to signal that somebody is entirely in control of a situation, since refusing to hurry is itself a kind of confidence. The adverb unhurriedly usually follows a verb of movement.
