unsung

UK/ˌʌnˈsʌŋ/US/ˌʌnˈsʌŋ/
adjectiveC1Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #12,412 of 15,258neutral

Unsung means deserving praise but never given it. An unsung hero, unsung and unpaid, the unsung work behind it.

It appears almost only before hero or heroes, and the image is old — deeds were once literally sung about, so what went unsung was forgotten. Note the un- prefix and sung, the past participle of sing.
