A watering can is a container with a long spout for wetting plants. A handle over the top and a rose on the end.
The rose is the perforated cap that breaks the flow into droplets, so seedlings are not washed out of the soil, and taking it off gives you a single stream for pots. Metal ones last for ever and plastic ones are lighter. The word can here is the old sense of a container. A full one is heavier than people expect, which is why every gardener eventually buys a hose.
