waypoint

nounC1Very rare — outside the 30,000 commonest English words, so you will meet it in writing rather than in speechleans written

Other forms: waypoints

A waypoint is a marked point along a planned route. Set a waypoint, reach the next waypoint.

It breaks a journey into legs, which is how navigation was done long before satellites. A waypoint saved on a device is only useful if somebody else knows it exists.
