wetsuit

UK/ˈwɛtˌs(j)ut/US/ˈwɛtˌs(j)ut/
nounB1+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #14,611 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: wetsuits

A wetsuit is a tight rubber suit that keeps a swimmer warm. Pull on a wetsuit, a thick wetsuit, wetsuit boots.

It works by letting a thin layer of water in and holding it there to be warmed by the body, which is why it must fit tightly — a loose one flushes and chills you. A drysuit does the opposite and keeps water out. Note that the compound says exactly what it is.
