affiliation

Other forms: affiliations

An affiliation is the connection somebody has with an organisation. Political affiliation, declare your affiliations, no affiliation.

In research papers it means the institution the author works for, and it is printed under the name for exactly that reason. Declaring affiliations is how conflicts of interest are supposed to be caught, and undeclared ones are how scandals start.
