anonymity

UK/ænəˈnɪmɪti/US/ænəˈnɪmɪti/
nounC2Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #8,636 of 15,258neutral

Anonymity is the state of having no name attached to you. Preserve anonymity, under anonymity, the anonymity of the internet.

It protects whistleblowers, witnesses and victims, and it also shelters abuse, which is why every argument about it runs both ways at once. True anonymity online is much harder to achieve than people assume. The Greek means without a name.
