gent

UK/d͡ʒɛnt/US/d͡ʒɛnt/
nounB2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #6,616 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: gents

A gent is a man, said informally. An old gent, the gents, a proper gent.

It is friendly and slightly dated, and it survives above all on the door of a public lavatory: the gents. Calling somebody a proper gent is praise for good manners, and it carries no suggestion of rank at all, unlike the full word.
