Other forms: internships
An internship is a short first job where a student learns a profession. A summer internship, apply for an internship, an unpaid internship.
It is how many industries recruit, which is why unpaid internships are criticised: they are open only to those who can afford to work for nothing, and that shapes who enters those professions. In Britain, an unpaid intern doing real work is usually legally a worker entitled to the minimum wage, whatever the arrangement is called. Note intern; and the American medical intern, a first-year doctor.
