Other forms: managers
A manager is the person who leads a team and makes the daily decisions. A line manager, ask the manager, team manager.
The job is mostly deciding and communicating rather than doing, which is why good individual performers so often struggle when promoted into it. People leave managers rather than companies is the survey finding repeated everywhere. Note that manage comes from an Italian word for handling a horse, so a manager originally handled.

From manage + -er. manage comes from Middle English manage, from Old French manege, from roa-oit maneggiare. From en-ear manage, menage, from Middle English manage, menage, from Old French manege (“the handling or training of a horse, horsemanship, riding, maneuvers, proceedings”), probably from roa-oit maneggiare (“to handle, manage, touch, treat”), from Vulgar Latin manizāre (“handle”), from Latin manus (“hand”) + -izō. a doublet of manège. Compare typologically handle; руководи́ть (< рука́).
