Other forms: missionaries

A missionary is somebody who travels to spread a faith. A medical missionary, send out missionaries, missionary work.

The work has often come bundled with schools and hospitals, and just as often with empire, so the history is genuinely mixed and is argued about by the churches themselves. A missionary in general use is anybody zealous to convert others to anything.
