Persistence is refusing to quit no matter how many times you fail. Sheer persistence, admirable persistence, persistence pays.
It is admired more than almost any other quality in accounts of how things got done, and research on achievement keeps finding it matters more than talent. It is also used neutrally of things that last: the persistence of a chemical in the environment, the persistence of an image. In computing, persistence means data surviving after the program stops. Note persist, persistent.
