Physiotherapy is treatment through guided exercise and movement after injury. Not a massage — a programme.
The physiotherapist assesses what has stopped working and gives exercises to rebuild it, and the hard truth is that most of the work happens at home between appointments. It is used after operations, strokes and sports injuries, and in respiratory care. British English shortens it to physio, which names both the treatment and the person. American English says physical therapy, and the practitioner is a PT.
