Other forms: prerequisites

A prerequisite is the course or condition you must complete before you may start another. A prerequisite for the module, meet the prerequisites, no prerequisite required.

It is stronger than a recommendation — a prerequisite blocks enrolment where advice does not. Outside universities it means any condition that must be met first. Note the pre- meaning before, and requisite, meaning required.
