Other forms: residues
A residue is what is left behind after a process. A sticky residue, chemical residue, pesticide residues.
In law it has a precise sense: the residue of an estate is whatever remains after debts, taxes and specific gifts, and a will that fails to name who gets it causes trouble. In chemistry it is what stays in the vessel. The Latin means remaining behind.
