Sedimentation is the settling of carried material to the bottom of still water. Rates of sedimentation, sedimentation in the reservoir, a sedimentation tank.

It builds the rock record layer by layer, so the order of the layers is the order of time. In water treatment a sedimentation tank does the first cleaning simply by letting the solids fall.
